Babies of smoking parents 5 times closer to death

If one of you is a smoking parent, then you must know the extent of harm that you are causing to your baby, in comparison to a non-smoking parent. Researchers from the

University of
Leicester measured the amount of cotinine, a by-product of nicotine, in the urine of 12-week-olds, who had parents who smoked…and the result were: babies who had at least one parent smoking had 5.58 times as much cotinine in their urine as babies living in non-smoking homes.

It is not just the smoke which is causing the havoc, but even the smoke effected clothes that parents wear when the babies sleep close to them. According to the World Health Organisation, smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any other single factor.
